In the novel Moondog and the Dark Arches, a Romani detective and a teenage librarian named Janney, who has the ability to astrally detach, team up to unravel a set of enigmatic mysteries.
 
Janney resides in an unusual feudal village that's nestled-away in the Vale of Amity, South England.
 
Janney can do something truly remarkable — she can leave her own body to merge with another.
 
During one such state of astral-detachment, she discovers she had been imprisoned within the body of an unidentified  young woman. It seems this mysterious woman had escaped from a terrifying pagan ritual, had been chased by a monster, so had chosen to jump from the town bridge.
 
It seems that several dogs had also jumped from the same town bridge— sadly meeting their demise.
 
The preternatural Romani detective, Moondog, is summoned to solve the mystery.
